Kevan had to renew his Australian passport. As usual we travelled up to Australia High Commission and sat for 2 hours waiting for our turn to put the paperwork in.
Whilst waiting, we picked up lots of leaflets - as you do - and started reading.
Don't know why, but we had never considered that Heather and Abs could have Australian citizenship and passports. Anyway we read the leaflets and a lightbulb went on over our heads.
Got home and started to fill out the forms. Got the photos done and everything sent off. Two weeks later received back two citizenship certificates. We then filled out more forms, more photos, more money and a few weeks later received two passports. We now have seven passports and only four people!
In 1983 we thought about emigrating. Kevan went for six months. I joined him for 1 as I couldn't get more time off work. Didn't enjoy Perth for various reasons most of you know! Anyway life was pretty good in the UK at that time, both had decent jobs, good income, great social life etc etc.
Once the girls came along we began to get disillusioned with the UK. We realised more and more that unless we did something, "this was as good as it was going to get". Kevan working all the hours god sends (not god but you know what I mean) and ok we have a nice house, healthy children and a reasonable standard of life but not much left over to enjoy life.
We have now decided to "try our luck" in Australia.
