Moving Day

We finally moved out of Sibley Avenue on the 18th November. Rushing around like blue arsed flies from the moment we got up.

Becs and Louisa arrived early to say goodbye again to Heather. They had brought her home on Thursday along with Hannah and Tess. Oh god, the tears! The whole form class had been fab, bought her pressies and all sang her "One Step Along the World I Go"

One more step along the world I go,
one more step along the world I go;
from the old things to the new
keep me traveling along with you:
Refrain:
And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me traveling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn,
more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see
you'll be looking at along with me: Refrain

As I travel through the bad and good,
keep me traveling the way I should;
where I see no way to go
you'll be telling me the way, I know: Refrain

Give me courage when the world is rough,
keep me loving though the world is tough;
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me traveling along with you: Refrain

You are older than the world can be,
you are younger than the life in me;
ever old and ever new,
keep me traveling along with you: Refrain

Very emotional. They didn't want to leave her. I'm glad they came back in the morning - it was a much more cheerful goodbye then, although Kevan had to drive them to school - didn't want them getting detention because of us.

Stacks of stuff went down to the dump. Stacks of stuff needed to be packed to take with us! Kept weighing suitcases on household scales and panicing. In the end Janet came to the rescue (as usual) and said to leave her with a box of stuff we could do without for a while to keep the weight down. Everything came out of the cases again and we repacked leaving stuff out. I rushed down to The Small Removal Company and bought a couple of boxes and promptly filled them when I got back.

Everything got a bit emotional when Sue, Lucy and Hannah turned up to say goodbye. It was lovely to see you but I don't want to do that again just yet thanks. Heather was very very upset and Sue appeared in control until she saw Heather! I actually got a hug from Lucy which impressed me.

Janet, Megan and Rosie then arrived to collect a few bits. Didn't do too badly there, I think it was Rosie looking bemused that kept me sane.

They went and it was back to the packing and cleaning. By this time Heather had shut herself in her wardrobe sobbing. Decided it would be best to leave her for a while.

Kev arrived to give us a hand. We finally got everything done just after three. By this time a few lovely neighbours were standing outside to say goodbye. Alison also turned up (bought the house) so handed a few things over, said goodbye to Fluff, started crying, emotional farewells outside, into the car and off to the airport - Phew!

We stayed at the Renaissance near Heathrow on Friday night. Sorry to family but we really didn't want anyone to see us off. We flew at 11am on Saturday so it should have been less stressful to be there already. Lovely hotel, unfortunately there were major traffic holdups, and it still took us ages to get to terminal 3! Managed to leave a couple of things behind in the room.

We checked in, imagining we were close to the 20kg per person, although we did have slightly more hand luggage than we should (two bags each instead of one plus the laptop). It wasn't until we had been in Singapore a couple of days and I looked at the check in details - oops found the luggage (without hand stuff) weighed in at 97kg!!! Had a stressful couple of seconds in Singapore Airport hoping like hell we weren't going to get clobbered for 17kg of excess baggage. Thankfully they passed it through as well - we had added another hand luggage bag by then!

Although both flights were full, we can only imagine they saw we were on one way flights and were being kind.
